Three Formula 1 newcomers to follow - #ThreeToFollow
This weekend the Formula 1 newcomers are making their first rounds around the Bahrein circuit in the pre-season testing sessions. Time to introduce them to you!
There's not a lot of change on the grid in 2021 compared to the previous season. In total, seventeen of the drivers were in a Formula 1 car before and sixteen of them participated in races last year. This means there are three people participating who you might not know yet. Or do you? Because our first contestant was in the news quite a lot the past few months.
Nikita Mazepin
He's barely even started and he's already caused quite a stir. Nikita Mazepin (1999, Russia) has had quite a stormy career. He was involved in some dubious situations on and off track. Then again: he's not slow. He finished second in the 2018 GP3 championship, third in the 2019 - 2020 Asian F3 championship and he was fifth in last year's F2 championship. He'll be racing for Haas F1 this year.
Nikita Mazepin has a website, a Twitter account, a Facebook page and an Instagram account. Be aware though, he might post some controversial stuff on there. On the 9th of December 2020 he posted a video in which he appeared to inappropriately touch a woman. Let's hope we'll talk about great actions on track in the coming year.
Yuki Tsunoda
This might be the most unknown of the newcomers. Yuki Tsunoda (2000, Japan) is a Red Bull driver who started karting professionally at the age of 10. He finished third in the 2020 F2 championship with three wins, four pole positions, seven podiums and 200 points to his name. He was the third in the Japanese F4 Championship in 2017, and won the same championship the year after.
He'll be racing against Pierre Gasly this year, his teammate at Alpha Tauri. Check out Yuki Tsunoda's Instagram here! He's also active on Facebook and Twitter. His official website can be found here.
Mick Schumacher
Big name, big shoes to fill? Maybe so, but Mick Schumacher (official website) has proven to be quite quick anyway. He was the 2018 Formula 3 champion with eight wins, six more podiums and seven pole positions. In 2020 he became the Formula 2 champion with only two wins but ten podiums. He's done some F1 drives and testing in the past few years and he'll be taking on Nikita Mazepin at Haas F1.
We want to look at him as just another F1 driver, but we can't help it: we will be comparing him to his father. How can we not do that when even his name is almost the same as Michael's? Everybody will make the comparison. Sorry, not sorry. Check him out on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and be one of his first subscribers on YouTube! We are number 28.
Bonus: Fernando Alonso
Yeah, okay, you might know this monobrowed legend. He is anything but new to the sport, he actually became a double world champion with Renault. But still: he's sort of new on the grid this year: after being off the grid for two years he rejoins his friends at the Renault F1 team, which has been renamed to Alpine F1. Alonso has a lot of fans on the grandstands, and we're very curious to see if the 39 year old (he'll become 40 years old in July) still has it in him to be faster than his teammate.
Fernando Alonso is mainly active at his personal Instagram account and on his Twitter page. He also has a separate account on Instagram for his museum and karting school which is worth a follow.
And that's it for this week's #ThreeToFollow. If you liked this article, please share it with your friends!
About Three To Follow
Each week we highlight three of our favorites on social media. Favorite what? It can be anything, as long as there's a social media account attached to it. It can be three artists, designers, photographers, journalists, brands, drivers, maybe after market companies or destinations: it really can be anything. We always select three accounts we like within a theme. Three accounts we think are worth a follow. Enjoy!
